National Conference “SHE-HEROES”

“Too many women in too many countries speak the same language – of silence.”

 – Hillary Clinton

The past two years have been tremendously challenging as well as stimulating globally. There have been remarkable stories of womanhood going beyond the staggering odds in order to conquer their goals while helping many in the process. Here, at Deviprasad Goenka Management College of Media Studies, Principal Dr. Amee Vora along with her team, wanted to instil a ray of hope and zeal for life in the students and society at large on how to handle misfortunes in life and be a pillar of strength.

The National Conference, “She-Heroes, Celebrating the Success of Womanhood” was organized by IQAC and Women Development Cell of DGMC in collaboration with Women Development Cell of University of Mumbai.

Keeping in mind the current scenario and the ethical necessity of observing Covid appropriate behavior, DGMC conducted the entire conference on the virtual mode. The conference was held online on Zoom platform on 11 December, 2021 from 10 am to 4 pm.

The Rationale of the Conference

Every woman has a worthwhile story to tell. Only an equally worthy platform is required to tell these stories. Sheroes was an attempt to be a platform for these powerful stories. Each story is a learning and life teaching, teaching us lessons that go beyond textbooks. These remarkable women with their grit and never give up attitude will always instil values in all of us.

In a bid to encourage students who are grappling with all kinds of uncertainties during the COVID-19 pandemic, we, at DGMC, want to inject in them a level of hope and enthusiasm for life and prod them to interact with our guests and ask them questions in order to gain a better understanding about how to deal with adversities in life and emerge stronger.

The Conference aimed at progress in advancing gender equality and empowerment of women and girls. Discrimination against women and other genders in law and in practice persists, and consistent efforts are required to overcome this refinement

The inaugural function commenced with Principal of DGMC, Dr. Amee Vora giving the welcome address. Shri Ashok Ji Saraf, the chairperson of Rajasthani Sammelan Education Trust addressed the audience giving his best wishes for the success of the event. The trust believes and lives up to its mission of educating the girl child.  Shri Narendraji Goenka underlined that women need to have equal right to participate in education, society, economy and politically. He reiterated the thoughts of Shri Ashok Ji Saraf of providing empowerment through education

But I must explain to you how all this mistaken idea of denouncing pleasure and praising pain was born and I will give you a complete account of the system, and expound the actual teachings of the great explorer of the truth, the master-builder of human happiness. No one rejects, dislikes, or avoids pleasure itself, because it is pleasure, but because those who do not know how to pursue pleasure rationally encounter consequences that are extremely painful. Nor again is there anyone who loves or pursues or desires to obtain pain of itself, because it is pain, but because occasionally circumstances occur in which toil and pain can procure him some great pleasure. To take a trivial example, which of us ever undertakes laborious physical exercise, except to obtain some advantage from it? But who has any right to find fault with a man who chooses to enjoy a pleasure that has no annoying consequences
