Timeline of the evolution of Mass Media

Mass media encompasses technology that is intended to reach a mass audience. Over the years, since its inception, it has undergone varied waves of transformation. The Mass Media Timeline represents a transition of different phases of evolution varying from traditional to modern-day mass communication, precisely the phases from verbal storytelling, typography, newspaper, radio broadcasting, and television ads to modern day digital media, and social media networking /marketing.

Let us have a glance of these phases & know about its evolution.

1. Written & oral forms – Verbal Storytelling & Typography:-

Owing to its origin in ancient times, a primary form of mass media – Written and oral forms of communication became an integral part for humans to communicate their ideas and conclusions to one another. It involved storytelling using voice and gestures which then carved the path for education that fostered basic aspects, academic skills, and social norms. Written methods such as Typography also enhanced personal lives and helped society to communicate better.

2. Print media & publicity – Newspaper to Radio Broadcasting & Television: –

Education & technology formed the basis of the evolution of mass communication with ease. From basic letters to newspapers, the form of communicating to masses thus took a leap & helped in making people aware about the happenings across the country. To add to the convenience, with the help of sound waves, radio telecasts evolved which became a national source of communicating important & general news around the globe.

It’s important to note that the evolution of mass media established employment to many and also opened the path to many career opportunities.

Next up in the rise of growing mass media was Television.

From written, audible to then visual transformation & availability of media happened. This marked the turning point in the history of mass media evolution. The audiences were then able to watch visual images with sound reproduced on screens & get the exact idea about the news/information. Television was primarily used to broadcast programs for entertainment, information, and education.

Irrespective of age, gender, and social status, everyone was brought together by the media.

3. The modern media:-

The internet, digital devices, and social media platforms are the most popular communication mediums currently.

4. The blend – Modern & Traditional media:-

Forms of traditional media like Billboards, newspaper ads, television ads, and other, aid to reach a wide target audience whereas Modern media allows businesses to target a specific audience through social media, paid web ads, and search results.

Conclusion:-

The evolution of mass media has been incredible and has benefitted all segments of the society across age groups. With the developments in film television and new media production, multimedia and mass communication and content creation over the past few decades, it’s exciting to wonder what the future holds!

But I must explain to you how all this mistaken idea of denouncing pleasure and praising pain was born and I will give you a complete account of the system, and expound the actual teachings of the great explorer of the truth, the master-builder of human happiness. No one rejects, dislikes, or avoids pleasure itself, because it is pleasure, but because those who do not know how to pursue pleasure rationally encounter consequences that are extremely painful. Nor again is there anyone who loves or pursues or desires to obtain pain of itself, because it is pain, but because occasionally circumstances occur in which toil and pain can procure him some great pleasure. To take a trivial example, which of us ever undertakes laborious physical exercise, except to obtain some advantage from it? But who has any right to find fault with a man who chooses to enjoy a pleasure that has no annoying consequences
