TV expert conducts add-on certificate course in Broadcast Journalism
The Broadcast Journalism course conducted at DGMC in July by veteran broadcast multilingual journalist and producer Samarjit Singh Bhandral was extremely informative and insightful for the students who attended the sessions online.
The 12 sessions, conducted over a month, included insights regarding a plethora of topics like Newsroom Departments, Input-Output desks, Newslists, Rundowns, Scripting, etc. The afternoon sessions of the add-on certificate course were
engaging as the professor kept the students busy with fun assignments that were useful in the world of news. Not only this, but the students were also guided on this magnificent journey even beyond the lecture hours.
Narrowing down the elements of newsrooms, the media students learned how Input and Output Desks at any TV channel function and form a seamless transition for every story. Moving on the students understood how to avoid being monotony by using various elements like flashes, tickers, slugs, graphics, etc. while doing a story.
The concept of packaging a news story so that it ensures maximum viewership was also covered, many more such similar concepts were also taught. Scripting at all levels was simplified into designated sections and taught with ease. Surprisingly, the students also learned to plan an electrifying debate show. They even shot a news reporting capsule and analysed it. All of the assignments that were turned in were given constructive criticism and it truly helped elevate levels of learning.
