The Photography Club of DGMC, in its inaugural event, celebrating the ‘Gandhi’ month, offered the students with an amazing opportunity to learn advanced and elite knowledge in the field of photography.
The club was declared open with inspiring words by our very own Principal Mam, Dr. Amee Vora, continued by our esteemed faculties, Prof. Partha Samanta and Prof. Shalu Balan. This occasion was also for the students to showcase their talents at large; by teaching them the art to create their own unique photo stories from the exclusive syllabus of Harvard, conducted by Prof. Sudeep Mehta, a Nat-Geo published photographer and faculty for photography at DGMC.
Two sessions that were conducted for 2 hours each on the 7th and 10th of October 2020, followed by presentations on the 21st of the same month. Here, the students had the chance to learn conceptualization of stories; learning from the World Press winning stories; photo story vs photo-essay, when and how to write anecdotal captions, writing 5Ws captions, types of media to publish work and write an introduction or a preface to a book.

Furthermore; they had an exciting photo-essay competition on the theme “My life is my message, by Gandhi” held on 21st of October. The presentations were graded, and Raj More, from FYBAFTNMP, was selected as the winner. The 3 talented nominees, Raj more, Amar Jain & Sumit Naik, are now on their way to publish their own photo book on Amazon.
The workshop was educational, and fun, only being added by Sudeep’s light-hearted and understandable explanations. It was one in a million experience that 110+ participants truly cherish!
We would also like to thank all the talented participants who showcased their photo-essays. We appreciate it.
