DGMC organised a one day National Conference in Library Science titled ‘Paradigm Shift In Library Services’, on November 26, 2016.
The objective of the conference was to discuss the impact of new technologies on library science and the ways and means to cope with the new challenges. The event was inaugurated by Shri. Ashok Saraf, President RSET and Dr. N. M. Kondap, Director General, RSET delivered the welcome address. Dr. Rajendra Kumbhar, Librarian & Head Department of Library & Information Science, Savitribai Phule University of Pune, was the Chief Guest and keynote speaker, and Dr. N. B. Dahibhate, Ex-Principal Technical Officer (DIRC), CSIR – NCL, Pune was the Guest of Honour. Dr. Kumardatt Ganjre, Director DGMC and Dr. Mangesh Karandikar, Dean, DGMC were also present on the dais.
The Conference got an encouraging response from library professionals and 50 research papers were contributed by Library Science fraternity from across the country. All the papers were published in the Conference Proceedings which was released by the dignitaries on the occasion.

Dr. Rajendra Kumbhar, in his keynote address outlined the reading habits of the users in the electronics era. He spoke extensively on how the power of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) can be harnessed by the librarians to develop a conducive learning environment for students and researchers.
Dr. N. B. Dahibhate spoke about the factors responsible for paradigm shift in library services and presented his views on the structure of the future libraries and the role of future librarian. He emphasized the role of librarians as being that of information facilitators in the future.
Ms. Geetanjali Wani, Librarian, DGMC presented an overview of the conference. The inaugural session ended with the vote of thanks by the Director, Dr. Kumardatt Ganjre.
Panelists who attended the conference included Dr. S. K. Savanur, Faculty, DLIS Mumbai, Dr. Sandeep Bhavsar, Librarian WE School Mumbai, Dr. Bhupendra Bansod, Librarian, SNDT College Mumbai, Mr. Ajay Kamble, Librarian, Annasaheb Vartak College, Vasai, and Mr. Pralhad Jadhav, Senior Manager, Khaitan Co.
The two technical sessions involved a healthy discussion on library sciences and its future. Participants presented their papers and discussed different issues related to library services in new ICT era.
The valedictory function was chaired by Dr. Kumardatt Ganjre Director DGMC. Shri. V. K. Sridhar, Registrar DGMC, and Dr. S. K. Savanur were also present on the occasion. Rapporteur for the conference, Mr. Ajay Kamble presented his report to the Chair and the conference concluded with the vote of thanks by Librarian Ms. Geetanjali Wani.
