The Poetry Writing Competition, organized by DGMC on 15th September 2017, was initiated by conceptualizing and creating a poster for the event. The onus was taken by the Mumbai Media Champs Graphics Team member Hemin Shah.
17 students, across different programs, participated in the poetry competition held from 1.00 PM onwards in the library. The competition was organized by Prof. Saurabh Deshpande and Librarian Geetanjali Wani.
On the spot themes were given to the participants. They were asked to write their poem within a time span of 30 minutes. A recitation of poems followed the competition. Themes given were –

The participants had the freedom to explore the themes in a language of their choice. Participants were quite expressive and enthusiastic while presenting the poems. The event was judged by Prof. Mahesh Savale and Prof. Vidula Deo. A pleasantly surprising suggestion came from Rahul Jain, Digital Film Making course student. Suggestion was – the formation of a Poetry Club, motivating poetry enthusiasts to be a member of the club.
This idea was quickly taken up by all the students and staff members present at the event. It was decided that the club would meet on 29th September 2017 at 12.00 PM in the library. The theme of the meeting was decided to be ‘Poetry and Painting’ where all the participants would bring a poem written on the theme to read and discuss. The result of Poetry Competition was decided to be declared on the first meeting of the Poetry Club.
